New Lunchtime Structure

New Lunchtime Structure

Over the past two weeks we have been trying our new structure for lunchtimes. We have made small tweaks along the way but we are pleased to report it is going really well and seems a huge improvement on our previous system. Benefits that staff and children have told us are:

  • Children are really enjoying eating together in one hall.
  • Having 20 minute settings means that children are eating more of their lunches so we are having less food waste.
  • There is even more space on the playground because not everyone is out at once.
  • We are seeing a reduction in first aid incidents – perhaps because of more space outside – or perhaps because first aid is now based outside so there is less of an incentive to come and sit in the warm!
  • Year 5 and 6 teachers have noticed an enormous difference in children’s learning in the afternoon – they are coming back into class in a much calmer way and are really ready to learn.
  • It allows us to use our SMSAs much more efficiently and effectively which is very important when we have such tight budgets.

Thank you for all of your support whilst we have put this new structure in place – we only had one parent raise a concern and it has been really great to know you are behind us in improving lunchtimes.
