We like to give children a lot of different responsibilities and leadership opportunities. Classes elect children to represent them in different roles:
- School Council - responsible for helping us make changes in our school.
- Eco Leaders - responsible for helping us look after our environment.
Year 5 Librarians - responsible for keeping the library in good order and supporting the children to find and read books for pleasure.
- House Captains - year 6 representatives chosen are responsible for supporting, encouraging and motivating their ocean team throughout the year and also on special Family Days including sports day.
- Digital Leaders - responsible for helping us use the internet safely and helping us to look after our computing resources.
Our school council is an important feature of the school. The council meets with Mrs Armitage regularly to discuss how we can improve what we do and what changes we can make to our school. Each class has a representative on the council who has been democratically elected by their class. They form our Bullying Intervention Group and lead Anti-Bullying Week.
Our eco leaders are passionate about raising awareness and leading us to make changes to help our school become more eco friendly. We have achieved our Bronze Award with https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/ which is a global initiative with children from 67 countries participating. As role models, our leaders actively take responsibility to improve our environment and encourage others to have a life-long positive impact on our future. Check out our webpage https://www.st-peters.n-somerset.sch.uk/eco-team/ for our news and projects.
Year 5 Librarians
Our year 5 librarians are reliable, well organised and helpful children who are responsible for the general upkeep and running of our school library. Our librarians are reading role models, helping children to find and read books, promoting reading for enjoyment.
Our year 6 house captains represent each of our 4 ocean houses: Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific and Indian. Each ocean has 2 captains who are responsible for supporting, encouraging and motivating their team throughout the year and including our family days (like our Olympic sports day).
Our digital leaders are elected by their class democratically and have the responsibility of helping others use the internet safely as well as looking after our computing resources across the school. Click on the link below to find out more about our digital leaders and their work.
